Guarding your fields

I'm not sure why this fascinates me so. Maybe it's because something as simple as a pattern controls the mighty wind. Or maybe it's the cool graphic that results.

I've heard it called listing and listering. That up and down wavey motion--a simple pattern in the dirt--disrupts the wind from blowing away loose sand, compost and plants. If you hang around the local coop for long, it's the one thing everyone can agree on: The only way to guard your fields against the wind is to list.

  1. It does make a cool pattern. So, does the coop have free wifi? :)
